***: The Bald Eagle, known scientifically as Haliaeetus leucocephalus, is an iconic bird of prey found in North America. Recognizable by its white head and tail, the Bald Eagle has been the national emblem of the United States since 1782. These birds are not only symbols of freedom but also powerful predators. Bald Eagles prefer habitats near water bodies, from where they primarily fish. Their nests, amongst the largest of any bird species, are reused and added to each year, sometimes reaching massive sizes. Eagles are also known for their dramatic courtship rituals which include high-flying displays and aerial acrobatics.
